GUY STRAZZ  – guitarist & composer

Guy Strazz is an acknowledged master guitarist, improviser and awarded composer. His work navigates Latin music, Indian classical music, Jazz and Western classical music. He has appeared as featured artist at Jazz Yatra (Mumbai), Jakarta Jazz, Perth and Adelaide Arts Festivals, Clusone Jazz Festival (Italy), Japan World Expo, the Sydney Opera House, Melbourne and Wangaratta Jazz festivals and the Adelaide International Guitar Festival.

He has worked with jazz luminaries such as Matt McMahon, Sandy Evans, classical composer Ross Edwards, Indian musicians Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, and Pt. Ashok Roy, guitarists Martin Taylor, Slava Grigoryan and Mike Stern. Guy is a recipient of several awards, including a Jazz APRA, two APRA Nominations, an Australian Independent Recording Jazz Nomination, an ‘Indie Acoustic Project USA” nomination Best Global Beat Asia, and the prestigious Australia Council for the Arts Music Fellowship.  (see AWARDS)

Guy is one of my favourite Indo-jazz guitarists Niranjan Jhaveri (Jazz India and Down Beat USA).
Guy Strazz (with Ross Edwards), one of those musicians who hear and accommodate everything that flows to them from  other performers, is able to emulate the rising intensity of sitar-like improvisations –  Sydney Opera House, Roger Covell (Sydney Morning Herald).
“Strazz takes to the classical guitar and the virtuosity is dazzling Leon Gettler (The Melbourne Age).

MAHARSHI RAVAL – tabla & world percussion

Maharshi is a student of Late Pt. Nandan Mehta – disciple of the legend of Benaras Gharana (school) – the late Pt. Shri Kishen Maharaj. Maharshi won first prize back in 1994 at the National Youth Festival tabla competition in Jaipur, India, and now uses his incredible talents to teach and perform tabla and Indian rhythm in Australia and South Asia. He is a sought after accompanist to Indian classical vocalists, instrumentalists and Kathak dancers. He has often performed concerts at Saptak Festival in front of Indian legends such as Ustad Shahid Parvez, and Ustad Zakir Hussain. A rising figure in World fusion in Australia, Maharshi brings deep groove, great improvisation skill, and explosiveness to Passionfruit Trio.

MICHEL LATUMAELISSA –  electric & acoustic bass

Michel is an Amsterdam-born of Moluccas ethnicity self-taught bassist. He learned from his guitarist father, and later studied improvisation with the legendary vibraphonist Gary Burton at Berkley College. A relatively latecomer to music performance, IT expert Michel has played with musicians/bands such as Afro Moses and John Prior. In 2018, Michel had a few lessons with Guy Strazz, who was so impressed by his musicality and skill that he asked him to join Passionfruit Trio.
