Guy Strazz Bio

An acknowledged guitar master and composer, Guy's work navigates modern jazz, crossover jazz, Afro-Brazilian & Latin music and a long-time interest in Indian classical music.
He has performed as featured artist at Jazz Yatra (India), Jakarta Jazz, Perth and Adelaide Arts Festivals, Clusone Jazz Festival (Italy), Japan World Expo, the Sydney Opera House, Melbourne and Wangaratta Jazz Festivals, and the Adelaide International Guitar Festival (Global Guitar).

His albums, released on labels such as ABC Jazz, Birdland, and Underscore Records, feature many of his original compositions. His projects include the Acoustic Wonderland Band, Great Guitars with Mark Johns, and Afrotonic - the River - with drummer David Jones.

Guy has a PhD and other degrees in music and has been teaching generations of young guitarists for three decades. He also lectures in Western classical & jazz harmony.

Guy is a recipient of several awards, including a Jazz Australian Performing Rights Award (APRA) award, two Jazz APRA Nominations, an Australian Independent Recording (AIR) Jazz Nomination, a US Indie Acoustic Project runner-up for Best Global Beat Asia, and a recipient of an Australian Arts Council Music Fellowship.
 
He has collaborated with fine musicians such as Matt McMahon, Sandy Evans, Dale Barlow, Don Burrows, Joe Chindamo, Magdalena Mira, Steve Hunter, Andrew Gander, and David Jones. Also, with Indian musicians Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Pandit Ashok Roy and Sandip Chatterjee, and guitarists Mark Johns, Martin Taylor, Slava Grigoryan, and Mike Stern.
